UZIMA SEWING CENTRE.....

On June 1st, 2022, a new program of TBA called Uzima Center (LIFE) was initiated with plans to provide vocational training.

The training began with the teaching of sewing that aims to transform and empower vulnerable individuals.

We decided to give priority to orphan children who have graduated from the childcare sponsorship program.

Upon completion of the project, they will be able to use this marketable skill to provide for their own basic amenities. Thereby providing, with dignity, for their basic amenities in the future.

The program is a FIVE-YEAR PLAN to train fifty vulnerable people as a beacon of hope in the fight against poverty.

June 1st, 2022, the first group entered the program. They had no sewing skills, and had not used sewing machines before. Surprised by seeing new machines, their faces lit up and they began expressing their joy in having this opportunity.

A successful story;

“S” is a 22 year old woman. Her mom was kidnapped and held in the jungles for months, being raped by rebels. As a child, she was orphaned and came into care through a child sponsorship program. At age 18, the program was completed, but she was still an orphan with no means of obtaining even basic amenities.

When she entered the Centre, she burst into tears and expressed herself by clapping and jumping. She said: “I am so happy my sewing class begins today; I can’t wait to sew my own dress!”

S has a big dream of becoming a great tailor in her village.

After two months, S made her first dress!

We are so excited to hear this report!

We praise God for her and for her instructors!

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PRAY WITH US!

We face a humanity that is too precious to neglect. We know a remedy for the ills of the world too wonderful to withhold. We have a Christ too glorious to hide. We have an adventure that is too thrilling to miss.

Introducing UZIMA (LIFE) CENTRE

God encourages us to respond to all people in need regardless of race, religion, or national origin.

Together Building Africa seeks to create change.

Our goal is to assist sexually victimized and destitute women and girls, and those with disabilities.

Congo has no factories to produce ready-made clothing.

UZIMA (Swahili for ‘LIFE’) SEWING CENTRE….will teach tailoring, an essential skill that will provide basic amenities and relief from absolute poverty.

We have purchased a few hand-turned and treadle sewing machines (power is unreliable).

At UZIMA SEWING CENTRE, they will be taught how to use the machines to cut and create garments.

After this training, they will apprentice for 2 months with an experienced tailor.

Upon completion of the training, we would like to see each student receive a sewing machine. Then we would send them out in groups of 4 to begin small businesses.

For some physically challenged individuals, this will provide them with dignity in the pursuit of basic amenities to live. It will also equip them with practical tools that will enable them to live up to their full potential.

Following a micro-finance model, the graduates will pay small sums back into the program for future students.

Dependence on external funding will be gradually reduced as the centre becomes more self-reliant.

A question frequently asked;

“Why send the North American missionaries when nationals can do it?

The concern is that a narrow either/or attitude is more a plot than a plan –a plot to undermine and slow the work of world evangelism.

Our options are not: either support nationals OR send missionaries.

The task is so big we must do both.

The greatest missionary of all, Jesus Christ, left the comforts of Heaven to come to us, to walk among the filth and mire of humanity.

He did not send His angels to do His bidding He came in the flesh to reveal the message of God’s tender mercy.

Because He came for all, we must go to all."

Sharing with you today THEIR testimony of our time in Bukavu;

“I thank the Lord for his servants that came here. When the servants of God came here I was sick. And I never came for the first conference they did. I stand here to say that God sent them to bring us the gospel. it is true that it was God who sent them.

When I was sleeping I had a vision and in that vision I could see that we were gathering with these servants of God. And when we were there in my dream, I saw that there was a group of soldiers and they were looking for them. I asked them "why are you looking for the servants of God?” And those military said that the gospel the servants were speaking was like the militia in their way.

And I saw how God was covering them. And I started praising God. And I could see that it's God who sent them. I thank God for all the work that they do in all this time that they were here. Everyone that was coming here received and I thank God!

And it's true that through their teaching God healed me!”

Children attend church from birth. They attend every time the doors are open. They sing and pray and contribute fully.

I was told ..... "In Africa, Church is LIFE!"

goats were given to this village. Each family was given 2 goats last year. This year we heard testimony of medicine paid for, education fees for children covered, and many needs met. This program is WORKING!

Hallelujah!

Praise and Worship in New Life Amsar!

Wednesday, February 16, 2022

Thank you to those of you who have waited patiently for a new word from us!

We are back in Canada and making the difficult adjustment....missing Congo and all those we love, but reunited with our loved ones on this side. It is painful to always miss family on one side or the other, but also a great blessing from God to HAVE loved ones on both sides!

the story I would like to share today is Eric's....

there is a dear lady in Bukavu who lives in severe poverty. She has a huge built-up shoe that assists her walking. However, the shoe is so heavy it limits where she can go and even when. If there has been a strong rainfall, she is limited to areas that are not so slippery. Her home is in a very muddy, steeply hilled area. Her home was also an issue. The roof was not waterproof at all, creating more difficulties for her life. You get the picture.

Missionary Eric, shared the story with his family. Together they decided to intervene on her behalf.

They had her roof replaced last fall, and she has an appointment for a new shoe, made of lighter materials! The appointment was to take place after our departure, so we will not see a picture for a while.

Thanks to Eric and his family, her life will be so improved by the love they have expressed for her!

Glory to God for these opportunities to show His love and concern for 'the fogotten', and for all of us!

We praise His name!

Good mornings friends!

We could use some extra support right now. There has been a major 'glitch' in our return plans, which were due to start Wednesday.

Pray that we will hear the leading of the Lord and regarding our flights and schedules?

sometimes the dreams God crushes along the way are so we can dream bigger ones

our hope is not in our circumstances, our Hope is in Jesus who promises to be with us until the end!

We shared a small but powerful conference for Pastor's Conference. We all left renewed in our vision to keep the Gospel moving forward minus the many compromises, that have gained such popularity!

God is relevant and effective even in 2022.

After all.....His name is not "I Was"....... He is still the Great "I AM"!

(side note: I LOVE the sound of the drums, so I tried to learn a new skill .....rather unsuccessfully)

This week is the end of our last conference (most conferences were different topics) Each one was a glorious celebration!

when we surrender to Jesus Christ, we want to live to honour Him

one hundred years from now——what we do today, counts——- forever!

(well, perhaps with the exception of drum playing, in some cases? 😄)

Eric's Update.....

This is a brother we met at the New Life Chruch plant in Amsar.

He was born with only one leg, and his good leg has been causing him a lot of pain!

He requested that we would pray for him.

Eric went the extra mile, and raised some funds for the man to seek medical attention to save that leg!

We all prayed for him immediately, and the following week, he was baptized! He testified that the pain in his leg left shortly after praying for him.

Praise the LORD, who is our Great Physician!!

Hope you're blessed......
