today...

Bukavu is experiencing a state of heightened security......so.......6 weeks until take-off! My dates are February 19th - April 17th.  Many steps to complete before then, but it will happen one step at a time. Mustn't panic now!

The school supplies and other donations will be received with great joy! The recipients interpret these donations as care and concern. It raises their hope to know that people perceive and respond to their trials! In a country where hope is so rare, this is what you are giving, and it is an immeasurable gift!

Still trying to get some medical donations and reading glasses to meet some of the desperate humanitarian needs.

It can be difficult for us to process the need and lack they have had to endure along with many other kinds of suffering. They teach me lessons of endurance and thankfulness in the face of oppressive hardship! When showing a video of the women of Congo singing and dancing to celebrate the gift of a few sewing machines, someone once called out..."what are WE that thankful for?" .....good question....don't you think?

a good word...

heard a great message yesterday. The challenge is....do NOT take the failures and shortfalls of 2012, even one minute into the New Year. It is a new beginning....leave behind all past mistakes, all unforgiveness and resentments, and all thinking that we can not be better or do better....this is a New Year. Start over, try again, keep on, do NOT give up, never quit...... persevere!

Happy New Year and....."lang may yer lum reek"!
(a Scottish salutation wishing long life and prosperity. Literally...."long may your chimney smoke.")
